The nostalgia of a stroke

Francis Bright, Professor Bright, was born on April 2, 1901, the "nice old man" lived in the steps of the Rosary Church, in Vicar Street Jose Ignacio, in the center of Porto Alegre, who circled the city center, in the decades 60 to 80, remember, this characteristic figure of our city, white goatee, glasses and beret. The unforgettable artist stood on the steps of the church, painted portraits of everyone who posed for him.

Died June 14, 1987, left because of his hard work and over the fifty years of production, more than 40,000 paintings, throughout Brazil, portrayed figures such as Mario Quintana, Borges, Pinheiro Machado, Getulio Vargas, Luis Washington, Ildo Meneghetti, Monteiro Lobato, Erico Verissimo, among others. Although its focus, its strong, people who were rested for him, mostly inhabitants of Porto Alegre, left some landscapes, especially in our city.

Professor Bright was one of the most popular artists of the city, he said: "The painting did not give me money, live with little, but instead, chose to work the way you taught me to live and to know men."

He graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, in 1920, perfected their experiences later in Rio de Janeiro, the capital where he remained about four years. He returned to Porto Alegre, his birthplace, where he resumed his work in the city squares, standing on the steps of the church for over 25 years.

Many of his paintings did not need a model, were made based on photo 3 × 4, left by customers. Used in addition to the stairs, the dependencies of the Church in which he kept a studio to teach classes, considered as a style "Paris" was the forerunner of the street painters. Due to his talent, the tour located in front of the McDonald's on Beach Street, which houses and street performers, received the name of our artist, Professor Bright.
